couponing

is something i don't understand.

i'm trying desperately. i am really REALLY looking for ways to cut our grocery bill.
we've been working at hard at eating healthier, and that, unfortunately, costs more moolah.
i don't even know where to start really
online?
newspapers?
what kind of ads am i looking for?
i've read that toiletries are the easiest to save on at first.
i feel like so often the coupons i see are for things we don't eat or use.

so couponers....
hit me with your best ideas please.

i need them!

The Sunday paper is the best bet, but there's also coupons.com, smartsource.com, redplum.com and more. Those are my favs. target.com and meijermealbox.com also have store coupons you can print. Some stores do double coupons (Meijer does all the time, for coupons up to 50 cents).

I admit it is not a huge huge savings over the store brand in the beginning. Where you eventually save $ is buying stuff when it is on sale AND you have coupons, then storing it until you need it. Then you never have to pay full price - which may be tough for you to do until you have a place of your own again.

Also, an important thing to know is that you can stack coupons. For example, say a laundry detergent is on sale at Target for $5. You have a manufacturer's coupon (from online or the paper) for $2 off the detergent. Then you have a $1 off coupon you printed from Target's website. You can use BOTH the manufacturer's coupon AND the store coupon, thus making the price you pay for the detergent $2.

That's where the biggest savings are - the stacking coupons when stuff is also on sale. You can really go all out with the coupon thing. I use coupons, but I'm not nuts about it. We usually buy the store brand, and sometimes even with a coupon that's cheaper. So it doesn't matter a whole lot sometimes.

Money Saving Mom is a great place to start. Start getting a Sunday paper (or multiple) and saving the inserts by date. She posts lists of what's on sale and where along with coupon match-ups by date/insert. The best way to save money on meals is to stock up on stuff when it's dirt cheap and then meal plan from your pantry/freezer. Aldi is also a great option if you'd rather avoid couponing.

I am in the same boat. I really want to save more money with groceries than we do. We have like zero extra storage so buying in bulk is really difficult for us. My friend Shelby has a family of 4, and her weekly budget for groceries is $30 because she is so crazy-good at this! Check out her blog for more tips if you want:
