the little things...
Today, Levi fell asleep in his swing, and I was able to clean the whole house, get 2 loads of laundry done, wash diapers, run the dishwasher, and still have time to blog.
It feels good to be settling into a routine.

one month and a choir fiasco
Levi is 4 weeks old today. I can't believe he has been here for a month already. I don't feel like he's changed all that much, but I'm sure he has to those who don't see him as often. He is growing and changing, I do not doubt!
He is giving us about 4ish hours at night between feedings. Most often he gives us one 4 1\2 hour stretch, and another 3 hour. We're basically getting up 2x a night with him, which certainly is manageable, though I think we're both ready for him to go a little longer. we can dream right? :)
He is spending more and more time awake, though often to his grumpiness. He tends to fight sleep during the day which makes for a cranky baby, and a cranky mama, but he's getting better, I suppose he's only a month old, right?
and a good story for all of you...
A couple of weeks ago, I had an interesting time accompanying. I got a call from the director at 7am. He sounded kind of tired or at least that he wasn't feeling well. He proceeded to say.. Hey Jen, it's Bill. I think I'm having a heart attack. Angie (his wife) is taking me to the hospital. Do you think you can come and in and direct rehearsal? I said. uh, what?!?! why are you on the phone to me? He continued to try to give me his lesson plans, until I basically hung on him and told him to GO TO THE HOSPITAL. Awkwardly enough, his daughter is in choir. Did she know what was going on? Of course not, but did I know that? Of course not. So, when she came in to choir she came up and said, where's my dad, and I said. Well, your mom took him to the hospital. She said, what?? So, there I was left to tell her that he thought he was having a heart attack, but clearly he wasn't doing too awful, since he had called me on the phone. Later during the hour, Angie called to say they were keeping him overnight for observation, to go ahead and cancel the concert for the next day, and oh.. don't tell Brittany what's going on. I thought.. hmm.. well a little late for that. So, I cancelled the concert, and pulled Brit aside and told her what was up since the poor girl was looking even more concerned since I'd cancelled the concert for the next day. I told her that she wasn't supposed to know, and could you maybe not tell your parents I told you? oops! Anyway, Bill is okay. They thought it was diabetes related, but I guess now they aren't so sure. A crazy day in choirville, that's for sure.

cloth diapering

well we've ventured the cloth diaper world. we researched so many options while i was pregnant, it was ridiculous. we finally settled on bumgenius. this week levi was finally big enough to start using them. so far we have been more than happy with them, and really whats more fun than putting on a blue, green or orange diaper? :)it's so funny to see the looks we get when we say were cloth diapering, and then to see their expression change when i pull out the diapers to show them!
i feel good knowing were doing our part to help the environment, and saving buko cash not buying disposables... a huge thanks to all of you, my cloth diapering friends for answering my zillions of questions!

our baby...

on saturday, my sister so graciously took pictures of levi. she loves photography, and just recently got herself a digital SLR and is loving that! :) she offered to take pictures of levi, and we of course didn't hesitate. she took over 300 pictures of him, then we spent a good deal of time narrowing it down to 30. it wasn't terrible as levi was um... not exactly cooperative, most of the time, and many of the pics he was screaming in. :) anyway... this is just a collage of some of our favorites, and probably will be our baby announcement, or at least something similar to this. i'll post some more pictures later...

1 time
so.. my little man is AWESOME! :)
He ate at 11 last night.. then to our amazement, he didn't wake up until 3:30.. yup, 3:30.. that's 4 1\2 hours of blissful sleep! :) hallelujah.. then not again until 6:30, which was when we were getting up for mike to head to work...
so that totals... 1 feeding in the night! :) it was probably a total fluke, but hey, i'll take a fluke! :)
I feel awesome this morning, it's amazing what a few hours of uninterrupted sleep will do! :)

updates
just a quick post between eating and sleeping. :)
we are doing well. just adjusting, trying to find a schedule, and try to get some sleep in the process. in fact i'm going to go take a nap after posting this. we're hoping to get some more pictures up soon, we've had some delays because we got our new computer, and are having to switch everything over.
levi is back up to his birth weight. he was up to 9lbs 1oz at his appointment today, and he's cleared to not go back until his 2 month appointment. he is starting to stretch feedings a little bit and move closer to 3 hours which we are enjoying. :) he got his first bath over the weekend. we videoed it yesterday, but i'm having trouble uploading it for some reason. hopefully soon.
mike is back to work full time, as well as school. he's busy trying to manage everything, but he's doing great. he's such a blessing as he gets up with every feeding in the night, burps and changes levi for me which is really nice.
i'm feeling good. i have an appointment tomorrow as a two week follow-up to the surgery, but, i really have felt great. i felt like i bounced back quickly, and really haven't had much pain from the surgery.
i'm working a little bit this week. i'm playing for a concert, so levi will get to be babysat tomorrow and get his first bottle, hopefully that goes well. i'm working from about 12:30-3, then the concert at 7:30 at night..wednesday i have to accompany for 2 hours at school, but i'm taking him with me, so i'll be able to nurse him during school. then thursday night, i'm playing for another concert, but just an hour in the evening. hoping all goes well with working, and nursing, and getting where we need to be on time. :)

we're doin'....
I *feel* like we should be blogging.. after all he's finally here, and I should have something exciting to share now, right? But, I find myself lacking for things to write about... baby... sleeping...eating... sleeping... eating... that's my day.
Levi is doing great. He is starting to really get the hang on nursing. There are still rough moments, but he's getting better, and mama's getting better and that all helps. He is sleeping at night like a pro. Last night he gave us 2 3 hour stretches. He ate at midnight, then at 3:30, and not again until 6:30, which we were up by then for Mike to head to work. If I could manage to stay up until midnight it would have felt like just one feeding in the night, which is awesome.
My one question for all of you out there... I seem to have a clogged duct or two. I've tried massage, I've tried hot water in the shower. I've tried a heat compress (I've had the most success with this)... I'm going to try pumping, but I haven't had much luck in the pumping department yet... anyone have any ideas for me??
Really, we just are feeling blessed by his little life, and our dear friends who have been so gracious in providing meals for us so we don't have to worry about eating. Mike is back to work today, and I'm flying solo. I'm feeling better and better, and it's getting easier to move around. Next week, I actually have 2 concerts I'm playing for so that will keep us busy, and Levi will be getting his first babysitting experience, and probably first bottle as well.
The picture is of Levi's first trip out. 5 days old, heading to church. He did great! And on that note... that whole sleeping eating thing? We're to the eat portion of our day.. :)

an update
Well, Levi is almost a week old now. How is that possible?
The hospital was an eventful stay. We ended up being there until Saturday with the whole cold turned respiratory infection business. So, while he's almost a week old it doesn't seem like it since we have hardly been home.
Levi is doing well. We made our first trip to the Ped this morning. They wanted to see him because he had lost quite a bit of weight in the hospital. Nursing was a struggle in the hospital, and still is many times a day... he was all the way down to 8lbs 2oz in the hospital. There were lots of tears over nursing in the hospital, but it gets a little easier with each passing day. Today that work paid off as my little champ had gained 4 oz since Saturday so we were quite thrilled with his progress. He does have what they call "newborn rash". Apparantley it's quite common, it gets gross and spreads, but it doesn't hurt or bother them at all. Strange.
I'm feeling okay. I'm still sore, and struggling to take it easy. If you know me you know I like to stay busy and get things done, and it's a challenge for me to sit and not worry about the things that need to get done around the house. Mike has been A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I couldn't ask for more from him. He has been my rock this last week. He was more than I could have asked for during labor and delivery. It makes me so incredibly thankful for the relationship we have as a couple. I can't imagine going at this parenting thing alone.
We never dreamed we'd be in the hospital as long as we were. He was scheduled to only be off through Friday. Mike called and was able to take today and tomorrow off of work, but Wednesday he is back to work, which means I'm flying solo starting then. I'd be lying if I didn't say I am worried about flying on my own, still recovering from the c-section. Please pray for me as that begins shortly.
Please pray for us as we learn to juggle our new little life of 3. Also, Mike started up his next set of online classes today. So please pray for him as he balances work full time, class, and being a dad, I'll be balancing stay-at-home-mama/organizer of daily life. :) at least until I return to work. Not to mention throwing in some time for just mom and dad.
We're feeling good, just adjusting to this new life. Hoping to be back up to posting again soon, with pictures. We've taken a ton, and I hope to be able to get a little bit of time to download all of that soon. Right now, any spare moment I have often results in napping.
