decisions, decisions

I feel good today.. like I could conquer the world.

Mike and I have made a lot of decisions this week. Some were hard, others were easy, but we feel good about them. While I'm not particularly ready to share all of them with the internet world, I am feeling incredibly peaceful about them, and I feel like for the first time, I'm really owning what has happened to us...

We made some pro-active decisions, some self-preservation decisions...
the following is one that i'll share...

Mike and I's anniversary is in 2 weeks.. we have been looking and looking trying to find a place to go. Nothing has seemed "right." We've looked at everything up and down the state of michigan. Yesterday, i was doing some looking, and, for lack of a better word, hit me. Instead of going away for our anniversary, we should save the money for another month, and go away the weekend the baby was due. May 10th... the day before mother's day. So, i spent the day looking, dreaming, wishing. Mike got home, and we talked about it, and both decided it was a really good idea for us. So, we're looking at taking a nice vacation the beginning of May. The dates are not nailed down, or the location, but we do know that this is we want to do.

I was super pumped and looking at everything. I was dreaming big, like DisneyWorld big! However, after talking with Mike, he ever so lovingly pointed out that perhaps disney, a child's magical wonderland, was not the place to be the weekend our baby was due, and he's right. So, while Disney isn't in the works, we are thinking about the mountains of Tennessee.

I'm really excited about it. I think it will be a good time for us to get away, remember our precious baby, while being together, and look forward to the future we WILL have as a family.

So.. that's our decision...

Life...

Sometimes life really sucks... this weekend has been one of "those times."
Someday it will make sense... but for now, it doesn't....
so I'm taking a blog break, until I can deal with it better.

germs, germs, and more germs....

This morning I woke up and felt like I'd been run over by a truck. Those pesky little kids I see every day finally convinced their germs to come my way. I feel gross and nasty, and just want to crawl back into bed and sleep the day away.
I hate being sick! It just makes me feel helpless. So for now I think I'll crawl back into bed with my orange juice, chicken noodle soup, and a good movie...

Baby Stuff

Just a rant for today...

Why do they make you sign up for tons of baby stuff during your first trimester? It's about the stupidest thing I can imagine. I'm SO sick of getting crap in the mail about my soon to be baby that isn't here.
Baby Magazine
Gerber
Viacord
Formula Companies
BabiesRUS
The list goes on..... for the longest time I didn't even know we were getting them, my amazing husband was throwing them all away before I saw them. In the past week, I've managed to get 2 things that I've seen before he's thrown them away... It just stings, ya know? Who knows how much we get that I don't even see.... scratch that... I don't want to know.

I just don't understand why on earth we sign up for that crap when we do. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, yet they hand you this packet of stuff to sign up for. Sure, I guess I could have turned them down, but I never dreamed we'd lose the baby. I didn't know the stats, but certainly the drs. office knows them!

Sure, I could waste my time calling these companies and asking that my name be removed, but it's not worth the time on the phone, the explanation, or the hassle.

So for now, I'll just vent.....

Choir Festival and Crazy Kids

Yesterday I played for Choir Festival. It's kind of like the "big event" of the year. The kids work towards it all year. They learn 2 pieces of music. We go to festival, where they perform in front of judges who rate them based on 5 different things, all boring stuff. : ) Then, they head to clinic where a judge comes in and tells them what they did well, what they could have done better etc. Then they move to sightreading, where they take a piece of music and read it "on-sight" seeing it for the first time. They use what we call solfege.. remember the "Do a deer a female deer" song from Sound of Music? Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do.. that's solfege. : )

Anyway, it was a very long, but fun day.

The craziest part of the day was when in 1 choir, we had 2 kids pass out!! It was super hot, in all the rooms. I was wearing a tank top and a really light cardigan sweater and was sweating, and these kids were wearing polyester robes etc. This particular choir had been there since 2:00, it was 6:00. They had eaten lunch at 11:30 and my guess would be none of them had drank anything since then. Well, we were warming up, and all of sudden this girl hit the floor! When she came to, the first thing she said was.. I can't see.. .which of course sent everyone into panic mode. I was getting water, one kid ran to get an adult that was running the festival. It was a bit scary, but once she got some water she was okay. Thankfully, we got through performance without it happening. We went to clinic, and another girl passed out there. So, then the festival got us a whole bunch of water and cups, and I was passing out water to everyone!!! We needed no one else passing out. Crazy Kids!!

Overall the choirs did fairly well. The best you can get at festival is a 1 rating (I) I played for 7 choirs, and we got 4 I's, 2 II's and 1 III, which we knew was coming. Those that got ones will then be invited to perform at State Festival which will be the end of April.

I also ended up picking up another choir while I was there. It was fine. I met up with them in the warm-up room. She turned around to introduce herself, and she was probably 6 or 7 months pregnant. I just stopped in my tracks. It was a hard morning thinking about how I would have been 7 months pregnant right now. Truth? I was somewhat thankful at the end of the day that I wasn't pregnant. I was exhausted and tired, and it would have been infinitely harder had I been, but still it was bittersweet.

I've been realizing more and more, that those "milestones" we always be there. Thinking "this is how far along I should have been" etc, won't stop in May. It will forever continue, I should have had a kid that was X years old, etc etc. Just one more reminder that this has forever changed our lives, but I am thankful for the experience (although it wasn't what we expected) because it has made us more aware of other people's loss and how much it affects your life.

Nikie's Sister

This is an email I received yesterday from Nikie. She forwarded it from her dad who is still at the hospital.

As of this afternoon:

-in the hospital till the end of next week. possibly out sooner. (not 3-4 weeks)

-then to rehab...for 1-3 weeks! (not 6 months)

-Dr.'s expect 100% recovery!

Nothing short of a miracle!! God does answer prayers!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to ALL who have lifted Krysta up in prayer. People literally around the world have been praying & we saw first hand His healing touch! GOD IS GOOD!!

Another Update on Nikie

I already posted one update today, but since then I've talked to Nikie and have more information. You can read the other updates here and here.

Nikie's sister is doing AMAZING! They are expecting her to recover at this point. She is now being considered stable and they have moved her into step-down.

She is still struggling to make connections with people, but she has actually had a few conversations now instead of just sentences, and was actually able to call Nikie on the phone. She is slowly coming back. She has definitely lost mobility in her right side, which they hope through rehab will get better with time.

They were most worried that Krysta would live, but would never "wake up". All signs at this point are pointing towards her waking back up again, which is just a HUGE answer to prayer. They are continuing to pray for a full recovery, but are so encouraged by everything that has happened.

So thats yet again.. another update...

An Update on Nikie..

Hey guys.. this is just an update on my friend, Nikie's, sister, Krysta. This is a copy of a mass email I sent out to people for Nikie over the weekend. This is the most recent information I have, which dates back to Saturday. To my knowledge, Nikie flew back home yesterday. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, click HERE

Praise God!! Krysta has made marked inprovements in the last few days. She is spending more time awake, talking some (though it still very faint and very broken), she is aware that something has happened to her, and beginning to comprehend more and more. On Thursday she was unable to swallow, but has since been able to eat some applesauce and a few other soft foods.
She is still considered to be in critical condition. The swelling in her brain has not gone down at all. However, it hasn't gone up either, which is definitely a good thing. It is however at a point that if the swelling were to go up, she would more than likely, die. The doctors are encouraged, however, that the swelling isn't getting any worse. They do know that there is definite brain damage in 3 parts of her brain. Her short term memory has been severely affected. Some days, she's 19, someday's she's getting ready to get married, and one day she thought she was in Milwaukee and according to Nikie has never even been there

She is remembering her parents, and Nikie, however is struggling to remember Ryan, her husband. Providing things contine to improve, they will move her out of critical care in the next 5 or so days, and down into the stroke ward, which will then begin a long process of rehabilitation. her right side was also extremely affected, and nikie said she won't use it at all unless cohersed into doing so.

The family is okay. Nikie's mom plans on staying in VA until further notice. She will stay as long as Krysta is in the hospital. Nikie's dad will stay until Krysta is considered to be more stable. Unless things worsen, Nikie plans to fly back to Baton Rouge on Monday. That is all the information I have for now. Nikie feels badly that she can't let everyone know this herself, but she is just overwhelmed with everything that is going on right now.

Continue to pray for Nikie and her family.
