Tomorrow is yet again another adventure.
Remember the choir that went to new york? Well, the same school is heading to Cincinnati tomorrow morning, to perform at a music in the parks festival, except this time instead of 30 kids, there are 160 going. 5 choirs will be performing. They will compete against other schools, then on Saturday will enjoy the day at King's Island, before heading to the awards festival, then home.
I'm hoping that this trip goes infinitely better than the last where I got stuck in the airport. It should, because for one, I'm not flying. Mike has tomorrow off, and we will all be heading to cinci tomorrow morning. I'm slightly nervous about Levi traveling that far. We have never done more than 2 hours in the car with him, and I'm praying he does well, since we have got to be there by a certain time. We are staying at a hotel tomorrow night, and then we will head back Saturday, and I think I've talked Mike into stopping in Toledo to go to the zoo for a fun break from the trip.
So that's that... one more trip, one more adventure...
............doing what we are able, by the grace of God, to the glory of God..........

shady shifting
shady shifting..
that's what levi does.
Levi has thus far been sleeping in a cradle in our room. However, over the weekend, we moved Levi to his crib. We moved him because, as I said, he's a shady shifter. For quite sometime now it seems as if Levi is not interested in being swaddled anymore. When we swaddle him up he screams until we take his arms out, or he punches his way out. He scoots and shifts out of any blanket we put him in. Well, Saturday night we woke up to a terrifying scream. This was not an "I'm hungry" scream. Both Mike and I jumped out of bed, flipped on the lights, and he had shifted and turned around and got both of his little legs stuck between the spindles in his cradle. He's fine, we're fine.. but after that stunt, he was out of that thing.
So, last night was his first night in his crib, and he did awesome. I knew he would be fine, and of course he was. It was very different to not have him in our room, but it was nice. And I feel TONS better knowing he's got much more room to do his shady shifting than before.
Anyone have any shifting tips? He seriously will do a 180 in the crib, and we don't know what to do to help him. It seems like he's restless but he seems to hate being swaddled as well...

Picnic
Yesterday it was beautiful outside; 70, sunny, and Mike didn't work, so we decided to head to the park for some picnicing at the park. We headed out and made our first stop to Little Ceasars for a hot n' ready. I tell ya, they really made a smart move with that one. Thanks, Little Ceasars! We spread out our blanket and devoured our pizza. We stayed for maybe 45 minutes or so before the kid decided he wasn't digging the sunshine.
We did however have a wonderful time. Here a few pictures.
Mike insisted we take some pictures of Levi with the pizza... :)
Someday, kid, Someday

playmat fun
Just a quick video of Levi. We bought this play mat for him,(at a resale shop and got a great deal, i might add) and up until just a few days ago he has just laid on it. He would look at the toys, but that's about it. Well the other day, he just reached up and grabbed them like he's always done it. Today, he was playing, I heard him squeal, looked over at him and he had grabbed the little monkey and was gnawing on it...
I know I'm bias and all, but he's so stinkin' cute.

wearing orange...
Time to fess up, I read blog's of people I do not know.
when I began blogging, I never dreamed it could be a world where you can shoulder people's concerns, pray for others, and learn some really interesting things along the way. I find myself drawn into people's lives, people's stories, often of people I've never met or will ever meet.
take for instance. this family. I don't even know anymore how I came upon this blog; I'm sure from clicking here and clicking there. But, I've become entranced by this woman, her faith, her family, and her son, Stellan. You see, her son, Stellan when he was in her womb, was given a prognosis that he would not live. He has something called SVT. It's basically where his heart beats twice as fast as it should at any given moment.
She began sharing her story from her heart, and her faith, that the Lord would do something great, and Stellan's story spread. Bracelets were made, people prayed, and it started a movement that Stellan WILL live, whether it was on earth or in heaven. Well, Stellan was born and lived. Praise God, He is a happy 5 month old baby.
Stellan still has lots of heart issues, and today, after several weeks in a hospital and then being air lifted to Boston, Stellan is having surgery on his precious little heart. So, Jennifer, believing in the power of prayer, has asked people to pray, and I truly believe thousands of people are praying for this special little boy that we have never met. The surgery is risky and has only been performed a handful of times on babies this young. He has been in surgery since early this morning. Somewhere in the process of Stellan being scheduled for surgery today a blog follower suggested that in honor of Stellan and to say that we are praying for him, that people wear Orange.(Orange is Jennifer's favorite color.)
So today, Levi and I are wearing orange, at least we were until he spit up all over himself and me. I firmly believe that Stellan's life will bring God glory, and people will come to know HIM, all because a woman had enough faith, and enough courage, to begin sharing her story from her heart.

wonderful weekend.
Sorry I've been MIA, just not much happening around here, normal boring every day stuff. I don't think you really want to hear about laundry, do you?
However, we had an absolutely wonderful weekend!
Friday night we enjoyed an evening at home, just hanging out as a family, which doesn't happen to often, so that was really nice.
Saturday morning, I had to go play for solo and ensemble festival. I was out the door and headed to a nearby town for one student. Truth be told, I was a bit grumbly about the situation, because I had agreed to do it when the director told there would be 6 events, and it dwindled to 1, which meant less pay, and over an hour of driving. However, it did leave the rest of the day free which was nice. I was home by 11.
Have you ever heard of mom2mom sales? It's basically a HUGE flea market of mom's selling kid stuff. Anyway, most of them are east of where we live, and I've never had the time to really drive over to them. However, they are finally moving into our area. Saturday after I got home, we headed out to one and were able to get Levi several clothes for the summer which was nice.
Saturday the weather was beautiful! So, we planned our first picnic of the year. I called my parents, April and Brian, and the picnic was in the works. We headed out for our first dinner at the lake. We ate in style with hot dogs and brats on the grill, and lots of munchies. We went for a walk afterwards, Kady and Bella, the dogs, swam in the lake, Brian fly fished, and we had a really wonderful time.
Back in December we had purchased tickets for Mike's parents and us to see the Lion King at the wharton center. It was their christmas present. Yesterday we headed up for the show and it was just spectacular. We saw it 4 years ago when it was here, and just enjoyed it immensely. As musicians, Mike and I appreciate live theatre perhaps in a way that others don't. It was just incredible. The music, the actors, the dancing, everything was just really phenomenal.
so that was our weekend. and if you read all of that.. here are some pictures from our picnic at the park. :)

April 9th...
April 9, 2005, we walked the aisle and said..
"we will" for the rest of our lives.
Mike and I were engaged on September 29, 2004, which just so happens to be my brother in law, Brian's birthday. We quickly decided we didn't want a long engagement, so we set our Wedding for April 9th. The day quickly approached and we did our best to prepare not just for our wedding, but to prepare our hearts for marriage. The details came into place easily. We decided to have an evening wedding. We knew when we chose our date, that it could be cold and snowy, or beautiful and springy. We had an absolutely gorgeous day, it was 70 and sunny, a rarity that early in Michigan.
Our wedding was at 7 in the evening, it was dusk, and beautiful. Because of that, we decided to go ahead with pictures ahead of time as it was a late evening. Mike and I still wanted to "see each other" for the first time as I walked down the aisle. So, we opted to just do that privately in the sanctuary. I loved that we had a few moments to just be together by ourselves during the craziness of the day.
We had a candlelit service, filled with lots of song and music, after all we were both music majors in college. The ceremony was beautiful, albeit a bit long. At one point, I remember thinking, if we don't hurry up and get done in here, I'm going to take these shoes off and throw them at someone. :) Thankfully, it didn't come to that, though I did promptly switch to flip flops after the service was over. :)
We left the church to sparklers, one of my favorite moments of the evening. We headed to our dessert reception, where we filled the room with 200 people and 30 of the most amazing cheesecakes you'll ever eat in your entire life. We ate desserts, laughed with friends and family, and danced away until late in the evening, to everything from Jim Brickman to Jazz..
I loved our wedding, every moment of it.. even the part where we tripped the fuse and the coffee didn't turn on, or the part where we ran out of punch...
I loved every moment, because it was with my best friend,
the man I chose to love, and love even more today...
I love you baby... forever and ever, I will...

snow
monday morning we woke up to this...

now, I honestly don't understand why everyone complains all the time.. we DO live in Michigan... and I know it was the first day back from Spring Break, and everyone got a snow day...
but seriously.. isn't it beautiful?

my sister and i talked on the phone that morning (as we do every morning) and were discussing how utterly annoying facebook would be with all of the complaints of snow... so.. April and I decided to make snow happy. :) I took pictures of it before it all melted away... April went to work, snowpants in hand, and was planning on making a snowman to help the residents not be so gosh darn upset about the snow.... well the snowman turned into a snowbunny in honor of easter.. they named her Rosebud, isn't she beautiful?

So there you have it.. Snow on April 6th, (7 inches to be exact) and enough to close all the schools in the county for the day. It really was beautiful...

blessings...
i've just been mulling over my trip to DC and back on Friday and just wanted to share some highlights and blessings, albeit not the day I had planned on.
1) On the way to D.C. i sat next to the absolute nicest women. We talked about her grandkids, Peyton Emily and Tyler Nicholas, and how she was a live in granna to them. She was such a sweet Grandma, and was a great woman who calmed this mama's nervousness of leaving Levi at home. I leave him every day for work, but something about leaving him and flying to another part of the country is a different story.
2) I was really amazed at the sincerity of people. Being stuck in the airport really collectively bonds a group of people. As each of us headed to the counter we were all cheering them on, hoping they were able to get to their destination. There was the couple coming home from Maui, working on getting home... Day #3.. There was the older lady who was traveling with her sweet cat to a cat show and got stranded in the airport, going on 20 hours. There was the soldier who was coming home from Iraq for a funeral... there was an older couple trying to get to new york to visit their daughter for the weekend.... the guy who was trying to get to Detroit to watch the Spartans play in the Final 4 with some friends....the list went on. It was heart-warming to see people really care about those they would never see again.
3) I was blessed to keep my wits about me. I had never flown by myself, so I was a touch nervous about it. When things started going wrong, I just kept praying that God would give me wisdom to know what to do. and a side note to that...
I was talking with my mom yesterday and she said... what time did you think to run to that gate to see if you could get on that flight? I told her is about 6 and she said.. your dad and i were sitting down to dinner and I prayed that the Lord would give you wisdom as to what to do.. just so neat, that God cares about little things like being stuck in airports.
4) Levi was watched by great friends and he was really good for them. I had pumped as much as I could before I left, but I was pretty sure he would end up having formula. For whatever reason, Levi didn't eat as much as he normally does, and we had exactly enough milk for him, and he never had to have formula. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to formula, he has had it here and there, but just another unexpected blessing.
5) I ended up talking with a really nice lady while I was waiting to board my flight.. turns out she lives in Napoleon, about a 10 minute drive from where we live. So, we just enjoyed general banter about our hometown, which felt so nice after being gone all day.
6) The biggest blessing? I was able to get home. I know that sounds crazy, but just hearing people say they had been stuck in that airport for several days, and that I was able to get out in about 14 hours was such a blessing.

new york...or bust
new york, broadway here we come....
Yesterday morning, I flew out of Detroit at 6am. When I arrived in Dulles, my flight had been delayed about 40 minutes or so. I breathed a sigh of relief as I didn't have to race to my gate. I took my time, and was sitting waiting for my flight. Shortly after I got there, it was delayed again until 10:01. No biggie, we had a few hours to spare for when I NEEDED to be in New York. I continued to wait and it was again delayed until 10:45. We boarded our flight and off we went. We got to the runway and had to sit in a long line of planes. The captain informed us that there was some weather issues and we were going to have to wait it out. So, we continued to wait. After about an hour went by, he came back on and told us that all 3 major new york airports were ground stopped due to weather, nobody was flying in or out. We had been cleared for takeoff in DC, but had no place to land.
So, we waited..... and waited.. and waited some more. Finally at 2pm, 3 hours after we left the gate, the captain said that we had been ordered back to our gate. Our flight had been cancelled. I had now missed the entire reason I was heading to NYC, and I just wanted to get home.
They instructed us to head to the customer service area to get a new flight. I stood in line for 2 1\2 hours waiting to talk with someone. When I finally did, all they could do was put me on standby for the flights to Detroit. I waited for the flight at 5:19 and was not able to get on. I decided to go back and stand in line at CSR because they had told me the next flight out to detroit was oversold, so my chances of getting on it were not good, and after that flight, there was nothing until morning. I was hoping maybe I could book myself a flight in the morning to O'hare, and then hop a flight to Detroit. I had resigned myself to sleeping in the airport.
Well, the flight at 5:19 ended up being delayed because Detroit ground stopped flights. Because they had just boarded, the had them deboard to wait it out. I was back in like at customer service when they started reboarding that flight. On a total whim, ran down to see if I could get on. Well, as luck would have it, 4 people didn't reboard the plane. There were 3 of us waiting on standby, and it looked like my luck was turning. Then.... to my dismay, the guy said, oh... I can only take 2 of you, and I was stuck again. There were seats available, but it was the whole weight\baggage issue. The man at the gate was really nice, he actually went and asked the captain if he could take me.... no luck though...
I was disappointed, but decided to ask him if he could check to see where I was on standby for the 10:20 flight. They had told me it was oversold, and at that point I didn't think I had any shot of getting on it. He started looking, and God bless that man, he printed off a boarding pass and said, you're no longer flying standby ma'am. I was so happy, I could have kissed that guy!
We boarded that flight at 10:00, and landed in detroit at midnight.
So...
that was my whirlwind trip to NYC...
or as the case may seem.. the Dulles International Airport.
