This spring I've been thoroughly enjoying Garage Sale-ing.
I've never been much into, because I've never really found much at them, but having a kid brings a whole new life to garage sales. They are filled with GREAT clothes that are hardly worn, because they wear it so little before growing out of it.
Friday morning my sister's neighborhood had a big garage sale. Armed with my money, and 2 good friends, we set off to find some deals. It was a PERFECT day for the sale. Sunny, 70, and Levi slept in his stroller.
We traversed up and down the road for about 2 hours. I snagged some great deals on books. I LOVE books, both Mike and I love reading, so we are trying to get books for Levi all the time. I got about 2 1\2 dozen books for him, for about $2. One set I was looking at was a set of books from the National Wildlife Federation. Each book was about a particular animal, and then used colors and shapes to teach about them. They were really cute. I was kind of perusing, thinking... mmm... is a quarter worth these, when the guy running the sale, piped in and said.. I'll sell you all of those for $1. SURE, i said, I'll take them. There are probably 2 dozen books in the set. I also snagged a great edition of the Velveteen Rabbit, and the first Winnie the Pooh book. I also snagged a few other board books as well.
I wasn't finding too many clothes, but I've come to terms with the fact that clothes don't seem to be as readily available for boys as they do for girls. sad, but true. Well, I happened upon a friend and she directed me to a sale where they were getting rid of boy clothes and boy did I hit the motherload! A HUGE table piled high of clothes ranging in size from 3-6 months to 2T. Not to mention, GREAT labels. Now, don't get me wrong, I could really care less about the label of clothing, but if I can get a nice brand for dirt cheap, SIGN ME UP! I snagged clothes for Levi for this coming winter, and even some things into next spring. I know it's far out, but one thing I do know.. Levi will grow, and if I can get clothes for cheaper than new, then I'll take it.
I got him
6 long sleeve shirts.
3 pairs of pants, a pair of bib overalls,
a really nice spring and winter coat,
some baby enstein blocks,
a xylophone, some duplo blocks,
a couple of blues clues video's and 2 puzzles.
plus the 2 1\2 dozen books.Overall, I spent about $21 on everything.
Garage Sale-ing has become strangely satisfying and I also feel like I'm being a good steward of the resources God has given us, and that's even better.
