FLEAS

does it kind of make you itchy all over?

about 3 weeks ago we found fleas on our little feline friend.

we went to war.

the fleas are winning, but rest assured..
they will not win the war..

we've moved on to a stronger agent for mr. cat and we've got a spray for the house to spray on basically everything.

oh, and cats also get worms from fleas because they eat them.

guess who has worms?

yup.

i won't tell you how i know that. you'll just have to trust me.

i seriously want to just throw out everything. it makes me feel like we're dirty people, which we're not, but you know, it's just how it feels. our vet said fleas are rampant this year and was not at all surprised by it.. i don't really care. i just want them OUT of our home!
blech!

we miss you!

i miss this guy.

contrary to popular belief, he's a kind, happy, cuddly, purry cat, and we miss him dearly. he is currently living with mike's parents, until we find a more permanent home for all of us to be together again.

i miss those eyes, those furry ears, those long whiskers, and his low purr late at night.

gardening and canning

tomatoes tomatoes everywhere!

well.. it's definitely time to start canning.. these are the tomatoes we brought home in just one visit to the garden... i'm off to the store today to buy some lids and then i'll spend most of my morning canning.

and just for fun.... here's a picture of howie. it was rather cool this morning at 48, not to mention i had the windows open in the house. i was picking up and laid the blanket on the back of the couch. How was laying there, so I just laid it over him thinking he'd move... well 20 minutes later, this is how i found him.... maybe he's trying to tell me something??

markets, gardens and cats

Yesterday I went to the farmers market with a dear friend. We walked downtown and enjoyed looking at all the fresh goodies there were! We walked in and out of a bunch of downtown stores and just enjoyed the afternoon together. I bought some fresh peaches, which I think I may just make a pie with... YUM!
Last night, Mike went out to the garden while I was teaching and came home with our first "real crop" of veggies. We've brought home a couple of things here and there, but last night he came home with a basket of stuff. We had zucchini, yellow squash, green pepper, banana pepper and some sugar snap peas.... I'll have to post my recipe for zucchini brownies, they are AMAZING and it's a great way to use up extra zucchini....
more yummies to come... :)

And just for fun, these are pictures of our beloved cat. It's been so hot lately. He doesn't like the heat, and I think he struggles just as much as we do, after all, he does have a fur coat on. The back of that couch is his most favorite sleeping location in the world. Normally he loves the soft fleece blanket to sleep on, but this is what we found the other morning when we got up. It was like he had pushed it out the way because he was so hot.. poor baby....
The second picture was when Mike grabbed the camera and started taking some pictures.
"Daddy leave me alone"...
that's his common sentiment towards us most of the time! :)

sewing projects

Back in the fall someone gave me a sewing machine. We were so busy during the school year that I never got a chance to learn how to use it.
So, my project for the summer? Learning to sew.

This morning I went to Joann Fabrics and searched and scoured their stuff for something I thought was reasonable for someone with ZERO experience to do. I finally decided on a purse. I picked out the materials and brought everything home.

I'm hopeful that this will work out, and will be a fun, not stressful, project.

I took a picture of the fabric.

The first two pictures our crazy cat was checking it out.

"Mama, what's this, is it new? Can I eat it?"
For the record, he did try to munch on the handles... crazy kitty!!!

Finally, a good picture!!!!
Let's hope it turns out like the blue bag on the pattern.. :)
