grandpas

today i took hospital duty. i was at the hospital from 9:30-6:30. keeping track of grandpa, talking with drs, and making sure my grandma stayed somewhat sane. can i just say you reach a whole new level of grandpa\granddaugther relationship when you help him stand up to go to the bathroom, and hold a plastic tub for him to throw up in??

it's kind of a balancing act we are playing right now. because of the bleeding in his brain, they need to thicken up his blood, but because he has a pacemaker\difibulator he needs to have his blood thin so it can run through that.. so we sit, and wait, and hope for the best. It's a balancing act at best, and lots of guesswork, and hoping that we end up on the right side of the coin.
he's mostly really tired, but he was doing better last night. he still has his typical sense of humor which is good to see, and is very coherent and knows what is going on which is also good.

while sitting in the hospital isn't my most favorite activity on a beautiful summer day, i'm thankful to spend the day with him, because i think his days are numbered. I don't think he is in immediate danger right now but he has certainly taken a turn for the worse this year, and I would be surprised if he was around within 2 years.

my mom is taking hospital duty today as i have lessons to teach and need to get some stuff done around the house. i'll probably try to go up and at least visit him for a while this afternoon.

Wow. I've cared for my grandma a couple of times, helping her get ready for bed and brush her teeth, etc. It does change things a bit. Hard to see them get older..
