well, we survived our trip. this was our first big road trip with levi, and to say we were a little nervous is an understatement. he does like riding in the car, but 5 hours is a long time, especially when they are stuck in those confining little seats.

friday morning, we headed to the school at 7am. we waited around for the kids to get organized and everything. our plan was to follow the buses, so that way, if levi did have a meltdown and worse came to worst, i could always pop on a bus and mike could move slower with levi. we ended deciding to ride ahead of the buses, so that way when we needed to stop and feed him, we would hopefully just be getting back on the road as they caught up to where we were. the first time we stopped, we fed him, and we're getting organized to head out again, and all of a sudden in pulled our buses. they were stopping for a potty break at the handy mcdonalds we were sitting in. so, that worked out really well.

the director seemed quite annoyed they were stopping. i didn't get why he was so mad they had to stop so the kids could use the restroom. well, later on i found out, they had stopped, and turned the wrong way. it took the driver a while to find a place to turn around. he finally did, and had to back into this driveway. it had a small "ditch" on either side, we're talking less than a foot. well, he backed into the ditch a little bit, but certainly nothing a giant school bus couldn't handle. well, per usual kid stuff, they screamed thinking they were dying or something. well, one kid got on their cell phone and called their parents saying " the driver just drove us into a ditch". said parent called the district, where it proceeded to make it's way up the chain all the way to the superintendant, who then called the head of the transportation department. moments later, the drivers phone rang, and it was his boss saying.. uh.. are you okay? so yeah, the director wasn't too happy at mcdonalds. thankfully no one was in trouble.. except for maybe the crazy kid in the back of the bus....

anyway, the rest of the trip was uneventful. the kids did a great job. i've yet to hear how they placed, but i'm sure they did fine. mike and i headed back saturday morning. our plan was to hit the toledo zoo on the way home, however levi was not doing all that well by that point in the trip, so we decided to just get home. so no zoo this time, but definitely a trip later this summer.

i will make a mental note though that a just under 5 hour trip, with a 3 month old took 7 hours. it was a long drive, it did however make us glad we made the following decision. my sister and her hubby has asked us to go with them to the adirondack mountains the end of may. we really wanted to go, however it is a 15 hour car drive, and after much talking, we decided with levi, it probably wouldn't be the best. so, figuring that a 5 hour trip, turned 7 hour,a 15 hour trip, would have turned into a 21ish hour trip. yikes! so, even though i'm still sad thinking about the fact that we aren't going, i know it's for the best.. and i'll just chalk it up to one more reason, i really don't like nursing...

have i mentioned that recently? i don't like nursing. nope, nada. i've tried, believe me i've tried to like it. but i don't. maybe it's because i'm working,and pumping takes everything i have, maybe it's because i feel like i'm stuck going to another room to feed him every couple of hours, maybe it's because i missed a trip to new york, a day at kings island, and oh yeah, a trip to the mountains this spring because of it... but it's really not something i enjoy. will i continue to do it? yes, because quite frankly it's free. it's not even the it's good for him factor that keeps me doing it.. it's free, that's what i keep telling myself. free.free.free.


anyway, cincinnati was really fun. it was nice that mike got the day off and was able to come with me, that always makes trips more enjoyable.
